*grumble* *grumble*
We're on Day 2 of Gavin refusing naps...which means I can't cat nap while he's asleep...and then the irony is that when it's my bedtime...I can't sleep. I was up till 12:30 last night, and then a storm kept me up till almost 2, and then Andrew was up at 5....and Good Morning!
Gavin thinks he's too grown up to nap I guess. We went to MOPS this morning, then a park play date later (he had so much fun with Meredith- she's almost 3 and loved holding his hand!), then because he'd been such a good boy we went to Target to get a surprise from the dollar section. Farm animals for $1!! Followed by a trip to Pet Smart to check out the fish, "nows" (kitties say "now" not meow), "tweet tweets", and lizards (he doesn't have a name for them...he just thinks they are really really cool -"WOW!" he says).
We came home, ate lunch and I thought for sure he'd go straight to sleep..no. He tucked in Cow ("Night Night cow!"), Pig ("Night, Night *snort snort*"), Horse ("Night Night knee" (he calls all horses ponies or knees)), and Goat ("Night Night Goak"), covered them with Ket and then climbed right back out of bed.
I told him to have some quiet time...I went to lay down, and promptly had to go back in there because it sounded like World War 3 was going on (books flying off the bookshelf, blocks being dumped everywhere, and farm animals sleeping through it all!)
And now it's almost 11pm and I can't sleep again, mostly because of the insane heartburn I have. I just hope we break the streak tomorrow and get in a good nap after Kindermusik, because that always wears me out!!
The video quality is not so great...but it's Gavin playing peek a boo with the moon tonight...
On Friday, Gavin and I met some friends at one of the nicer playgrounds in Shreveport. My camera is still on the fritz (I'm eyeing a Canon DSLR now...I think it's time to bite the bullet and buy the camera I wish I'd bought when we got this one 2 years ago) so I'm stuck using just internal memory which is like 20 pictures or one short video and a couple pictures...
These are from Friday...
an ear of corn (almost a foot long, 1 lb 4 oz. give or take).
24 weeks is also considered the beginning of viability outside of the womb...but she better stay put for another 14 weeks or so at the least!! But it is comforting to know that she would stand a good chance of survival if born today...but like I said Stay Put!
We went shopping today, and I found these: (I've been whining about the lack of pink elephant things, so I was thrilled to find these (and on sale!)
Gavin held onto the lovey while we were in the store...and he called it a "phant" (Elephants used to be "fee"s).
Show us what book is on your night stand.
This...
and this...
and this...
and this also...
(I'm a multi-tasker when it comes to reading...)
And a comment on Death's Acre...I know that sounds like the most morbid (disgusting) book ever, but I'm a big CSI fan, and really liked the book (its about the Body Farm where forensic scientists study human remains as they decay..and all about Dr. Bass's career in forensics). Yes, it is eerie and the descriptions do turn my stomach but it was one of the best non-fiction books I've read in awhile...Andrew is still making fun of me for reading it, asking if there's something he needs to know about...ha ha ha.
Gavin used a new word today...he was rubbing his eyes around 4 pm and I told him he must be tired...
later he handed me his penguin, Unca; took Unca's wings and rubbed his eyes (okay..not really, because Unca had his eyes ripped off his face for the second time by the whippets...but you know what I mean) and said..."Nunca tied!"
Then when he was eating dinner, he rubbed his eyes again and said..."Done..tied..night night".
He had a long day without "Ket" (his trusty blanket). It was laundry day for stinky Ket, and Gavin wasn't too pleased. I found him a spare blanket (the blue shiny one in the picture above) for nap time...but when he was helping me put his wash load in the dryer, he spotted Ket and pulled him out (he didn't even care that he was wet). It took a lot of convincing that Ket needed to get in the dryer...it helped that we have the front loading dryer, so he was able to see Ket tumble around awhile. After dinner, I gave him Ket back...and he was soo happy, "Hi Ket!" and snuggled right in with him as you can see (Ket is the white blanket in the picture under the book).
I picked this up on a whim at the library and I finished it in one day. I don't do that often, but it was a day when Gavin napped for 3 hours...I thought this book was one of the best books I've read in quite some time. It's about a father and son, living in a world that has seemingly ended. You never discover what exactly happened to the world, but there's hardly anyone left living, the landscape is burned to ashes and it's a struggle to find anything to eat or drink. The father and son are traveling the road South even though they don't expect much to be there when they arrive.
Along the way, they meet some pretty evil people (cannibals and just mean people) and struggle so hard to find food each day, and not succumb to the bitter winter cold. The journey of father and son was so touching and unforgettable. I really couldn't put this down. It's been made into a movie starring Viggo Mortensen (LOTR) and comes out later this year.
I'll try and add pictures later, my memory card crashed and the internal memory holds like 4 pictures...looks like I get a new memory card!!
My friend Meghan, has a sweet blog about her daughter, Adalie. She was sharing a day in the life of Adalie for family, and it made me want to do the same for Gavin. Adalie is 8 months old and I miss her simple little schedule, it seems like ages ago that Gavin was that size!! So here's a day for Gavin, written by him.
7:10 am (SHARP!) Pop out of bed, drag "ket" (blankie) with me. He's a good friend and I can't start my day without him! Head straight for the toys...usually a Thomas train that puffs and chugs...I think mommy likes to be awoken to the sounds of steam engines and my "woo woos". I might play for awhile, or I might immediately head for the door, try and open it and yell, "Mama!!"
7:30- comfort Mommy while she's sick (sure hope this ends some day...) try and cover her with "Ket", she tries to tell me thank you, but for some reason doesn't want him in the bathroom with her...weird.
7:45- try and open the gate and go downstairs by myself...I can let out the dogs, that would help mommy.
7:50 - climb into my high chair and demand juice or milk...I like fruit most mornings, either a banana that I hold and peel (mostly) by myself, or blueberries. Some days I like yogurt and rice cakes, some days dry cereal and fruit.
8:00- try to escape high chair, frantically sign All Done, and then yell at Mommy to give me my freedom.
8:05- unsuccessfully try to steal dog food and drink out of dog bowls...Mommy's onto me though...she's quick.
8:10- drive around living room in my fire truck...push the siren as many times as I can, chase Wallace if he's still inside. Try and break into laundry room to get "Mmm" (the vacuum) out. If Mommy is going to vacuum, I get to push mmm around for awhile on my own. Once she starts, I get out my own toy vacuum and help her out.
8:15- remind Mommy to open the blinds by banging on the windows
8:20- steal remote...who wants to watch Good Morning America? Mooch whatever Mommy's eating for breakfast...espcially cereal with milk.
8:30- attempt to climb gate and go back upstairs, relent and play in ball pit while Mommy drinks coffee. Not sure why I can't have some, even if it is very hot.
9:00- Mommy attempts to get me to watch Sesame Street. I'm only interested in trains these days...so she either puts in a Thomas dvd and I get out my trains to play on the coffee table or we go upstairs and I convince her to do a Youtube search for Steam Train videos...I've seen almost all of them...they rock.
10:30- after playing with Mommy for an hour and a half; reading stories or climbing on top of forbidden pieces of furniture, running around the house, talking, talking and talking, it's nap time. Some days, I'm nice to mommy, she's tired and doesn't feel good so I stay in bed. Some days, it's just too tempting to stay in bed when there's so much to do. On those days, I can play quietly while Mommy lays down in her room to read...I'm good for 30 mintues or an hour sometimes...but then sometimes, temptation gets the best of me and I have to throw things or move my bed around the room, or pull all the books off the bookshelf.
If I napped, I sleep till 12:30- 1, and then I get lunch...maybe dinner leftovers or some lunch meat, cheese, crackers, more fruit or carrots the one veggie I eat...usually I get milk and a cookie or Tonka truck gummies as a dessert...yummy.
1 pm-whenever Daddy gets home...we might go out shopping or run errands, or have a friend over for a play date..or if it was a morning when I had MOPS or Kindermusik, I nap till later. If the weather is nice, we play in the front yard...I'll catch one of those squaws (squirrels) some day...occasionally we take the dogs for walks, but they'd rather play in the backyard.
I try to play quietly while Mommy makes dinner...really I do. But sometimes dogs need to be chased, tables need to be climbed on and ovens need to be opened (or at least atttempted to be openend). Mommy calls this my wild period...I'm not quiet (so she says). I don't know why she doesn't want to hear my fridge toys sing all of their songs simultaneously..she has no taste in music sometimes.
I eat dinner at 6 whether Daddy is home or not...Sometimes I'm not that hungry, but I'll make up for it tomorrow! Then it's time to take a bath, brush my teeth and pick out night night stories. I get 3! stories, and hopefully Daddy comes home in enough time to read Good night Moon..he's the best at reading that one. After I find my fwa (pacifier) and Mommy turns on my sheepie that plays nice sounds...I get kisses and the lights go out...
and then by 7:30, I'm sound asleep...Mommy says she goes to bed not long after me...but I bet she stays up to play...it's what I would do if I wasn't tired from being so busy all day.
