I bought Gavin the Fisher Price Little People's Noah Ark toy back several months ago at a children's consignment event with the idea of stashing it away for his birthday in June. Well, it's been in his closet for months now, and he never bothered it. But now that he knows how to open the closet doors- he climbs into his closet every day and drags it out. I don't know why I even take it away from him...obviously he loves it, I just wanted it to be a birthday present, so I keep putting it back into hiding.
Well, last week when my best friend, Laura, came to visit, he got it out. He dumped all the animals out in the floor, and then one by one would hand me the animals. When we got to the alligator, Laura was telling him, "Oh look, it's an alligator!" And he says, "awwagayga?" with this adorable little puzzled look on his face. I swear it sounded like he was saying alligator. Laura and I just looked at each other...I'm pretty impressed even if it was just coincidence.
This morning, Andrew didn't have to go in until late, and he heard Gavin banging around in his closet, so he peeks into his room and saw him with Noah's ark out again. He'd peeled the top off, and was reaching into the ark, digging around and pulling each animal out one at a time. Then he'd bite the animal, look at it again, and throw it on the floor. Taste testing, I said. I really wish we'd captured it in a picture, but when Andrew came to get me- he saw us and crawled over to us.
According to Gavin, the closet is a big fun place to play in, or close yourself up in it...depending on the day.
One day last weekend, we were in the adjoining room to his room, and he was banging around playing, and then started squealing...so we went into his room, and he'd closed himself into the closet. (It has sliding doors) and he could only open it just a bit (probably because he couldn't see what he was doing on the inside), and you could see his little face (half of it anyways) and tears were just dropping off his little cheeks. It was so sad. So we had to rescue him. Now he thinks it's funny to play peek a boo in the closet, and crawls in there, slams the door shut and waits for me to say, "Where's the baby?" and then he pops out, giggling.
He's such a funny little boy :)
So Saturday we packed up and headed to the lake on base with our neighbors/friends and owners of W & G's BFF a golden retriever named Boomer.
Sounds fun hmm? Well, don't be imagining sunny skies and warm temperatures, it was like 40 and cloudy. And our silly dogs seemed to forget they weren't golden retrievers like Boomer and jumped right in the lake! They were so excited to get there and run free. The lake is way out past the runways and surrounded by all the nature trails and woods. I really didn't think the boys would even attempt to swim, but they saw Boomer out there bringing back in a stick and dove right in. They ended up swimming for about 30 minutes, and ran "zoomies" all across the fields. It was whippet heaven!
Then Gromit started getting cold, and so he sat on the shore while Boomer was still swimming and just cried and shivered. He wanted to go out there, but he was just too cold. So we decided to take all the dogs for a hike through the woods. I really never imagined the dogs would behave so well off-leash, but because they'd been running full-speed and swimming, they were too tired to misbehave. Until....they came across a rabbit and all three dogs took off running and chased the rabbit to who knows where?! They were gone for like 5 minutes before Boomer came back, and then I really thought we'd lost W & G, and I began thinking..."Well, at least the base is fenced in" (of course that's not saying much its a HUGE area to search for two dogs!) Finally they came back one by one, with their tongues hung all out to the side, so exhausted. I think they heard us calling them, but they just decided to walk back and not run.
Where was Gavin during all this? He was happily riding along in the Baby Bjorn carrier, enjoying the hike and all the sights. He's been really fussy lately (more teeth!) so the walk really calmed him down. Everyone enjoyed a good nap when we got home :) Then Sunday in the nursery at church, he refused to be put down to play, and made the friendly workers hold him the whole time. He was going to town on his pacifier when I retrieved him, poor little guy...he only ever really wants a paci when he's getting teeth- so I suspect his top front teeth are on their way! He's 9 months old in a week which totally blows my mind!! We'll be doing more portraits, but first I need to buy him a new outfit for them.
I'm looking this weekend at the children's consignment event that's going to be here for toys and such for his first birthday, I found a lot of Christmas toys there for amazing prices last fall. I hope I have the same luck this time!!
Well- my oven timer is going off, I'll try and get the new pictures up later! *done*
